From the Golf d’Aravell to the Sant Julià de Lòria Sports Centre
For the past 13 years, in late November, we have organized a night hike called the “Rosa del Nord” (Rose of the North). It commemorates those who were persecuted and fled across the Pyrenees in search of freedom during the Spanish Civil War (1936–39) and World War II (1942–45).
This year, the event takes place on the night of November 28–29.
The “Rosa del Nord” route runs from the Aravell Golf to the Sant Julià de Lòria Sports Center; it was a common path for fugitives following the Segre River route to enter Andorra. The trek covers 22 km with a cumulative elevation gain of 1,600 meters.
Participants in the “Rosa del Nord” identify with fugitives and those persecuted by totalitarian ideologies worldwide. We hike at night, without aid stations and in adverse weather conditions—as the event takes place on the threshold of winter. This timing roughly coincides with the final leg of an expedition that included Saint Josemaría Escrivá de Balaguer, who entered Andorra on the night of December 1–2, 1937.
The event is organized by the Association of Friends of the Pallerols de Rialb to Andorra Trail (*Associació d’Amics del Camí de Pallerols de Rialb a Andorra*).
-The hike will begin at 3:00 PM at the Aravell Golf and conclude at the Sant Julià de Lòria Sports Center. The fastest participants will take about 5–6 hours, and the slowest about 7–8 hours.
Volunteers will be stationed along the route to assist walkers who may be struggling.
To cover volunteer expenses and trail maintenance, each participant must pay a fee of €25 at the start of the walk.
Upon arrival at the Sant Julià de Lòria Sports Centre, hot chocolate will be served.
