At the Saint Raphael Cabin
In the month of August, we met up with Ramón —an outstanding guide— so he could tell our group (families with teenagers and some younger children) about a section of the route Saint Josemaría Escrivá took in the autumn of 1937.
Most of us were unfamiliar with the story of the perilous journey Saint Josemaría undertook —along with several companions— during the Spanish Civil War to reach Andorra by crossing the Pyrenees.
First, we visited the interior of the church at Pallerols: the place where they spent a night in hiding, and the site where Saint Josemaría found a golden rose after asking for a sign to confirm he was doing God’s will.

Next, we headed north, walking through the forest until we reached the Saint Raphael Cabin, a charcoal burner’s cabin that served as a refuge for those fleeing.
Ramón explained what Saint Josemaría and his companions did during the five days they spent in the cabin.

We enjoyed the experience and learned a little more about the life of Saint Josemaría.
We will be back next summer to learn even more!
