Emilio and his family 86 years later: 2.12.1937 – 2.12.2023

On the night of December 2 to 3 there was the traditional “Rosa del Nord” Nocturnal Race and Walk, which goes from the Golf d’Aravell to Sant Julià de Lòria (Andorra), commemorating the last stage that Saint Josemaria Escrivà did the night of December 1 to 2, 1937 on his way to escape to Andorra during the Spanish Civil War. A family from Lleida took part in the walk: Emilio de Gomis with his wife, Eva Vila, and their 3 children.

This family had already done, in different stages, the entire route of the Camí d’Andorra (see the news of April 6, 2022) and this year they wanted to do the final stage of the Rosa del Nord, but adding a “historical end”: sleeping in the same hotel in Escaldes that Saint Josemaria Escrivà did -the Palacin Hotel, which is now called Hotel Siracusa- and the same night -the night of December 2 to 3- but 86 years later.

Emilio sends us a photo of what he saw from his room (number 101), which if you compare it with the drawing they made in 1937 from the room occupied by Saint Josemaria, you will see that it is the same view, so most likely Emilio slept in the same room as Saint Josemaria!, or in any case, very close, since they had the same view.
