He transported us back to 1937 through his explanations, the meticulously preserved rooms, the hermitage, the small exhibition, and the video. Everything brought those events to life.

We were especially moved by the “oven” where saint Josemaría faced one of the most decisive trials of his life.

 

 

Visiting the church, we were also struck by the place where he found the rose, a sign of the Virgin’s protection. These are places that deeply touch you.

Pallerols is well worth a visit. Its extraordinary natural beauty and the atmosphere of recollection and intimacy make saint Josemaría and those who accompanied him in those days very much present. Here it is easy to rediscover roots deeply embedded in saint Josemaría’s sole desire: to do God’s will.

The visit far exceeded all our expectations thanks to Ramón Camats’s moving explanations about saint Josemaría’s time in this region. Reliving in detail what happened during the difficult days of November 19, 20, 21, and 22, 1937, transported us back to those moments of uncertainty, refuge, and discretion experienced by the group of expeditionaries in Peramola and at the Vilaró farmhouse. The highlight of our trip was reliving the events of the night of November 21-22 in Pallerols. Hearing the account of saint Josemaría’s profound inner turmoil and the subsequent discovery of the gilded wooden rose on the church floor deeply moved us.
