Greeting Bishop Joan-Enric Vives in the presence of the authorities of the Municipality of Sant Julià de Lòria

On Saturday, May 31, representatives of the Association of Friends of the Path from Pallerols de Rialb to Andorra went to the Traditional Canòlich Gathering, which is held every year on the last Saturday of May.

On behalf of the Association, we will attend: Jordi Piferrer (Vice President of the Association), Jordi Pérez and Marcelo Martínez.

This year it coincided with the proclamation by Pope Leo XIV of the acceptance of the resignation of Archbishop Joan-Enric Vives and the appointment as Bishop of Urgell and Co-Prince of Andorra to Mons. Josep Lluís Serrano.

“The Holy See has made public today, May 31, 2025, at 12:00 p.m., that Pope Leo XIV has accepted the resignation from the pastoral government of the Diocese of Urgell presented by H.E. Mons. Joan-Enric Vives i Sicília, in accordance with canon 401.1 of the Code of Canon Law.

H.E. Mons. Josep-Lluís Serrano i Pentinat, until now Coadjutor Bishop of the Diocese of Urgell, becomes the Diocesan Bishop of Urgell, in accordance with canon 409.1 of the Code of Canon Law, and consequently, Co-Prince of Andorra, in accordance with art. 43.2 of the Constitution of the Principality of Andorra.

The acceptance of the resignation of Mons. Vives and the succession of Mons. Serrano were made public simultaneously today, in Vatican City and in Andorra la Vella, as provided for in the Agreement between the Holy See and the Principality of Andorra of 2008”.

After the celebration of the Eucharist, we greeted Bishops Vives and Serrano, as well as the Andorran authorities present at the event.
